Normally, our cells obey these orders, and we remain healthy. Sometimes a cell instructions to mix and behaves erratically. After a while, groups of abnormal cells can circulate in the blood or immune system, or they can be formed into pieces or tumors.

Tumors can be either benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancer). Benign tumor cells remain in the same place in the body and are not usually life threatening.

A malignant tumor cells are able to invade the tissues around them and spread to other parts of the body. Cancer cells that spread to other parts of the body are called metastases. The first sign of a malignant tumor has spread is often swelling of nearby lymph nodes, cancer, but can metastasize to almost all parts of the body. It is important to early detection of malignant tumors and treat them.
